Chambre de Métiers et de l’Artisanat
The building’s design was inspired by the site’s history and geography and merges the pillars of sustainability, landscape, architecture and interior design. The monolithic, horizontal emphasis of the building is a result of an analysis of the site’s landscape and surroundings, in particular the neighbouring fortifications. The multi-use building has a different programme on each floor: public space on the ground floor, education on the first floor, offices on the second floor, and an auditorium at the core of the building. The different areas are separated from each other by two independent entrances, different user features and a clear circulatory route, all of which delivers a compartmentalized and concentrated building. The auditorium is open to different uses, as is the magnificent main lobby. Modern, robust materials have been used. The building’s transparency and integration of green patios make it easier for visitors to find their way around the building naturally. The inviting main entrance opens out onto a specially designed square and landscaping that complements the nearby botanical gardens.
