Aurora Building
The iconic Aurora Building in Amsterdam, located at the junction of the Stadhouderskade and Overtoom, is undergoing a sustainable transformation into a modern, high-quality office space with an international outlook.
Designed in the 1960s by renowned architect Piet Zanstra, Aurora is a notable example of early modernism in the city, distinguished by its elegant curved façade that follows the natural bend of the street. The renovation respects the building’s architectural heritage, preserving key features such as its natural stone façade, columns, storefront volumes, and single-storey roof structure, which were recognised as monumentally valuable in 2022. At the same time, the project introduces innovative elements, including a green garden at ground level, a new atrium, and landscaped rooftop terraces, creating a healthy and engaging work environment. The flexible office floors of nearly 1,000m² offer spacious, well-insulated, and light-filled workspaces.
Aurora is designed for long-term sustainability, featuring innovative elements such as electric energy storage, a geothermal system, 214 solar panels, and climate-adaptive green roofs, blending heritage with cutting-edge sustainability.
