CCC - Chemelot Flagship Building
Chemelot Campus is a redevelopment project that turns the previous DSM chemical plant into a new campus for chemical research, education and business. A design competition for a new central building was launched, with a call to bring together three different departments: Center Court, Academy, and DSM Innovation Centre. The strength of this project is that it unites the three users and creates a space for new, innovative collaboration opportunities.
The building itself has no clear front or back, but a sort of universal receptiveness, with a central square to accommodate a constant whirl of visitors. It is a solid structure with a patio and delineated corner entrances that open the space for pedestrian flow. The plan has been rotated by 30 degrees to break free from the surrounding grid, amplifying its public character. The programme includes offices, public spaces, restaurants, meeting rooms and laboratories, with use gradually changing from public to private over three floors.
