The Brabantse Delta Water Authority, a regional institution charged with the care and maintenance of the local landscape, is housed on the Bouvigne country estate in Breda. The heritage-listed estate is a monumental feature of the local landscape, comprising a historic castle, gate building, chapel, ponds and French-style leisure gardens.

The project combines the renovation of the heritage grounds and structures with a contemporary extension. The new addition is an elongated narrow office building that creates a threshold between the French garden and a new orchard of walnut trees. Different working typologies are distributed strategically within the linear layout while preserving the relationship with the landscape. A spacious, three-storey-high entrance hall with atriums gives an open sightline towards the castle. The hall houses the reception desk, information point and the public entry to the estate. Other functions like the meeting facilities and the management centre are located in the castle and the chapel. The gatehouse has become a restaurant and the gardens serve as a local wedding venue.

A relationship with the heritage site is underscored by the use of brick and substantial door and window frames that are reminiscent of the castle, but the sober and subtle detailing radiates modernity.
