The JESSA Hospital is an integral part of the Salvatorpark, a new healing environment that provides local citizens with a place to relax, exercise, and play. The hospital’s public interior is part of the routing through the park, adding an essential dimension to the landscape. Spacious courtyards strengthen the relationship and facilitate interaction between inside and outside. This positively influences the experience and interaction between patients, visitors, and staff.

The human-scale is central to the design and the hospital has been organized from the smallest unit outward – the hospital room with a window that looks out onto various patios or the future park. Soft colours inspired by nature enliven the interior and facades, whereby the room becomes recognizable in the modular facade design. Personal contact with doctors, nurses, and family in a caring interior, where the patient feels more like a guest than a person in need, contributes to a fast recovery. The programme is divided into three parts: Cure, Core and Care. Cure consists of specific high-tech programmes like the hot floor, radiology, and emergency and is positioned along the city for efficient logistics. Medium-tech and general functions are housed in the Care which meanders through the landscape and overlaps with Cure to create direct connections inside. A spacious public boulevard – the Core – pierces through the building, connecting the two other programmes with public facilities and generating a lively park lobby.
