Musée Maritime de Saint-Malo
The Musée Maritime de Saint-Malo is conceived as a natural extension of the city’s historic fabric, carefully integrating into its fortified setting. Balancing the solidity of Saint-Malo’s characteristic stone architecture with light, open spaces, the design creates a seamless dialogue between the city and the sea.
A continuous path guides visitors from the ramparts to a generous entrance, inviting them into an immersive journey through the city’s maritime heritage. The layout is designed to enhance accessibility and flow, ensuring a clear and engaging experience. At its highest point, an elevated platform provides a new vantage point over the bay, offering shifting perspectives of the tides and the horizon—reinforcing Saint-Malo’s deep-rooted connection to seafaring and exploration.
The project aims to preserve and enhance the site’s historic character while introducing new spaces for learning, encounters, and discovery, bridging past and present through a thoughtful and sensitive architectural approach.
